About Gabriel Moraes Aquino

Gabriel Moraes Aquino is a Brazilian artist born in 1994. He lives and works in Paris since 2017. He graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2020, then completed an 11-month residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and is now part of the residency at the Fiminco Foundation in Romainville.

Gabriel is looking for intersections and possible aesthetic forms between the intimate exchanges and impermanence of temporary dwellings. His references come from his travels, from stories told and not told, from his collection of images, from personal and retrenched texts and from raw and recovered materials.

These dynamics helped to build affective and sharing spaces in which the identities of each individual and/or the states of being would be part of a series of interconnections that existed through speech, music, storytelling, object, food, dance, etc. in the form of performative and interactive actions and installations, inviting the public to mingle with the different media and signs of presence.

In 2021, he participated in collective and collaborative projects such as the inclusive project between schoolchildren ” L’Autre cet Extraordinaire”, a partnership between the Fiminco Foundation and La Villette; the 71st edition of the “Jeune Création” art festival; the exhibition U Otro Lado, at the DOC in Paris, organised by Persona Curada. His work has also been presented at the Espacio Temporal in Pantin, in Vila Nova de Cerveira in Portugal, as a book project at the A4 Art Museum in Chengdu, China, at the Offshoot Gallery in the UK, among others. In 2022, he presented his installation “Fortune Coconut” at exhibition “100% L’EXPO” at La Villette. In 2022/2023, he will work with the association Orange Rouge to develop a collaborative project for a year with young people with disabilities (cognitive or visual disorders,  alternatively behavioural, intellectual disabilities, etc.).
