Little story of self-portrait

Photographic self-portrait has always been considered as an artwork, either for its artistic or aesthetic dimensions. However, the appearance of smartphones brought about a new and highly criticized form of “self-portrait” : the “selfie”. This class offers the opportunity to narrate the history of the self-portrait and grasp its new dynamics in relation to digital media.

Klervi Le Collen started her career as a press relations officer. She is a historian specializing in contemporary societies and her work focuses on the challenges of new technologies. She is a writer, a researcher, as well as a professor at the Sorbonne Nouvelle. Moreover, she regularly collaborates in iconographic research for exhibitions or publications.
