YOUNGCHAN KO

Born in South Korea in 1989, he studied geoinformatics at the University of Seoul before moving to France to attend Villa Arson, where he obtained a DNA degree in 2016 and a DNSEP degree in 2018. He currently lives and works in Mokpo. His work is based on research and investigations, which he conducts mainly in the form of video. His works have been presented at Vidéoformes (Clermont-Ferrand, 2024), NeMaf (Seoul, 2023), Rencontres Internationales Traverse (Toulouse, 2021), BIVAF (Busan, 2020), Nuit Blanche (Paris, 2019) and others.

As part of his residency at the Fondation Fiminco, the artist will explore underground worlds—abandoned mines, caves, air-raid shelters—and meet those who inhabit or pass through them. These experiences will suggest that there may be a shared sense of ‘below,’ understood this time in its geographical sense. By deliberately considering ‘down’ as a spatial rather than a hierarchical dimension, the artist will explore the possibility of discovering values there that differ from those that govern the visible world.
