Siyanda Kobokana
Siyanda Kobokana is a South African sensory historian and PhD candidate at the University of the Western Cape. His research explores how sound, media technologies, and climate justice intersect in post-apartheid South Africa. He is developing the concept of “ecological listening” as a method for engaging with environmental crises through the senses, memory, and community experience. Siyanda’s work builds on his earlier research into radio as a space of resistance and draws from decolonial, public, and sonic histories to rethink how we listen to injustice and the planet.
