Séverin Guelpa
Séverin Guelpa develops a sculptural and installation-based practice in which materials drawn from fragile territories become a language in themselves. Stone, earth, metal, and industrial elements are collected and transformed into works that retain the imprint of their places of origin. His installations, often large-scale, combine sculpture, image, and sound within immersive spatial environments. They explore the relationships between nature, resources, and culture, giving physical form to the tensions of the contemporary world. His work turns landscape into an active material, translated into objects and environments that engage the viewer’s body within space.
During his residency, Séverin Guelpa is developing a project around the idea of urban geology, in which the region of Romainville becomes a space for observation, investigation, and production. He approaches urban dynamics as layered strata, composing a narrative that is at once rooted in reality while also aesthetic and speculative in its vision of the city. Tensions, ruptures, fractures, and balances feed into a body of works and experiments reflecting his interest in territories in transformation and what they reveal about our society. The project unfolds through sculpture, models, and printmaking, in dialogue with the techniques and materials available during the residency.
