Santiago Martinez Benedetti

Santiago Martinez Benedetti is a Swiss-Colombian artist based in Lausanne. His practice is defined by a raw, spontaneous, and conceptual approach. Trained at ECAL, where he earned a BA in Photography in 2020, he has developed a practice situated at the intersection of image-making and publishing. In 2024, following a residency at the Verzasca Foto Festival, he initiated Torbola 31, a project awarded the Swiss Design Award in 2025. At the same time, he founded Siestaaa Papers, an independent publishing house dedicated to collaborations with artists and designers.

During his residency, he continues a research-based practice focused on photographic reproduction processes, exploring printing techniques such as screen printing and engraving. By questioning the reproducibility and uniqueness of the artwork, he foregrounds manual processes in which gesture becomes central. Through these practices, he reflects on the increasing dematerialization of the image in the digital era and reasserts the value of a sensitive materiality.
