Alex Hojenski

Alex Hojenski is a visual artist based in Hamburg, Germany. Her practice is rooted in an engagement with painting that unfolds into space. In this sense, painting serves as a medium that leaves an imprint and establishes connection. Alex Hojenski constructs flexible, mobile, and expandable bodies that desire, assert themselves, yet remain open. They may provide forms of shelter—somewhere between costume and capsule, sleeping bag and canopy. They carry themes such as safety, mutual dependencies, interspecies physicality, and the ambiguous desire to be “equipped.”

During her residency at Fondation Fiminco, she seeks a deeper approach to the relationship between bodies and architecture. Starting from gathering places in both private and public space, she develops interventions and explores possibilities of cooperation. The working title retenir evokes in this regard two options it contains: to hold and grasp with one’s hands, in the physical sense, or in the mental sense, where one absorbs a moment and acts in a much more fluid way on the material level.
